At the beginning of the new season, FC Bayern Munich again expects DFB captain Giulia Gwinn.

“The downtime is eight to ten weeks. At least the goal is that it can be there again at the start of the season,” said Bianca Rech, director of women’s football at the German champion and cup winner, at “Sport1”.

The 26-year-old Gwinn had contracted an inner ligament injury in the left knee in the European national team’s European championship victory against Poland and fails for the rest of the tournament in Switzerland.

Return to the EM at the Sweden game

The Bayern women open the Bundesliga season 2025/26 on September 6th against Bayer Leverkusen for the first time in the Allianz Arena. Gwinn is currently on treatments in Munich. As announced by the DFB, it will be back in the last preliminary round game of German women against Sweden on Saturday (9:00 p.m./ZDF and DAZN) in Zurich again at the German team.

“It is important for everyone involved and also for Giuli that she can start the rehabilitation process as soon as possible,” said Rech. “On the other hand, she is a captain and a personality of the German national team. It is also important that she can be there there.”
