Samsung Fold7, the thinnest and lightest folding with a traditional smartphone

In the Samsung house they have already called it an Ultra S25 – that is, their successful top of the range smartphone – which opens. Those who praise themselves imbred, but this time it is enough to scroll through the numbers of the technical specifications of the new Galaxy Z Fold7, presented in these hours, to agree that the definition is not senseless. Korean engineers have worked a lot on the so -called form factor, on portability, on how to reduce weight and thickness without sacrificing performance, weak point of folding phones so far. Result? The fold7 from closed is often 8.9 mm, and from open it is reduced to 4.2 mm. The Ultra S25 of which it was said, that is, a traditional model, drops to 8.2 (a minutia), but on the other hand it is even heavier 218 grams against 215 of the new Foldable.

As soon as possible objection: it has given up on something. Here, the really initial impression – Samsung has not given us the opportunity to test the new models, but only to touch them – is that this has not happened. A useful test must have been the recent launch of the S25 Edge, the ultra -thin version, only 5.8 mm thick. Samsung believed so much and first to the folding, with many difficulties: the first fold, to say, weighed 276 g. And you struggled to put it in the pockets seen the 17 mm thick. Let’s now take the displays of the new folding: the external one is a 6.5 -inch AMOLED, a little lower and a little wider than the previous one (wait ratio 21.9), with the not negligible convenience of being able to type with both hands. The internal one open to the book reaches 8 “, that is, 11% larger than the previous one with brightness up to 2600 nit, that of a good PC. The greater lightness could make the device less resistant, but according to Samsung it was overlooked with a new ceramic glass with integrated crystals for the external screen, with a layer in titanium fiber in the internal one that makes it 50% more robust and, in general with a second -time aluminum frame generation.

Also at the level of processing power and cameras, the fold aligns with the S25, and this is perhaps the real step forward. The processor is the personalized Snapdragon Elite for Galaxy, i.e. the chip developed by Qualcomm for the functions of AI, such as simultaneous translation or generative editing: the increase in performance is evident with a +41% of the NPU, the chip dedicated to artificial intelligence and a +38% of the CPU, the data processing unit. Same goes for photography: the main objective is 200 megapixels (and no longer from 50), which is accompanied by an ultra-granandular 12 MP also used as a macro camera, while the front one is 10 MP with an angle of 100 ° which makes group selfies easier, compared to the previous fold. In practice, a photographic sector that also aligned with the S25 here. Artificial intelligence provides for the rest, for example in night or low brightness videos in which it now distinguishes the subject on the move, keeping it on fire. The AI ​​also makes use of the collaboration with Google and its assistant Gemini (including Live Gemini, i.e. with only voice commands), eliminating unwanted objects with great precision, or cleaning the audio automatically in videos, recordings and phone calls. Above all, the AI ​​has been optimized for the Fold7 screen and now it is activated without the need to switch from one app to another or from one screen to another. Four colors: Blue Shadow, Silver Shadowm, Jetblack and Mint. There is no longer the S-Pen (the only real renunciation), the nib that still characterized the Galaxy Fold as a phone for productivity and justified the price, but remains an object for high-salad: from 2199 euros upwards.
