After the brilliant opening victory against Portugal, Spain was also accurate against Belgium. The reward: the almost safe quarter -finals at the European Championship.

Spain’s women’s national team also won their second group game at the European Championship in Switzerland. After the 5: 0 at the start of Portugal, the Iberians even gave Belgium six goals. 6: 2 (2: 1) it was said on Monday evening in Thun.

The two -time world footballer Alexia Putellas opened the goal series after 22 minutes. However, Belgium promptly cut back by Justine Vanhaevermaet (24th minute). In the first round Spain went through Irene Paredes again in the front (39th).

The Belgians were allowed to cheer again shortly after the break. Hannah Eurling met (50th). But Spain’s goalkeeper Esther almost replied in return (53.). Mariona (61st), Cláudia Pina (81st) and again Alexia Putellas (86.) screwed the result even further.

The quarterfinal catchment must only be taken theoretically due to the second victory. Should Portugal and Italy separate in the evening in Geneva (from 9 p.m. in the live ticker at T-Online) with a draw, Spain would certainly be among the last eight teams in the competition.

The decision in Group B would also have been made in the event of a victory of the Italians. Then Spain and Italy would certainly continue. Only a success of the Portuguese could prevent a quarter -finals with Spanish participation for the time being – and ensure a high -dramatic last match day. In this scenario, even Belgium would have chances to progress despite two defeats.
