“I can laugh about it now and I am very happy, but yesterday I had a lot of plague,” says Brands (59) about the lack of his right leg prosthesis.
“When I went to eat a fries with a friend and his children somewhere, I then put my prosthesis on the roof of his car. I got bothered by it and it started to sweat. Once at home I immediately found out that I couldn’t walk anymore, so we immediately returned,” he says.
In the parking lot on the Marktplein in Emmen, in addition to Kwalitaria de Bikbar, Brands could not find his artificial limb anywhere. “We walked with four people, but without result. I immediately called the police about my lost leg and asked if they wanted to share a message about this on social media.”
Leg prosthesis in front of the brokerage office
Fortunately, the leg prosthesis was not far away. The artificial part of the body had slipped off the car and ended up about 50 meters further on the sidewalk at StartBox Makelaars. “It was funny. You would think: you miss that right away?” Says Arvid Lange van de Makelaardij about the comic and special image at the door.
That same afternoon, one of the colleagues from the broker shared a message on Facebook about this special find. “Fortunately I know an orthopedic shoe maker and he recognized the shoe,” says Lange.
“On the inside of the prosthesis was his name and some other data. We called the man later and he indeed indicated that he was already missing him. He was super happy that we called him.”
‘Was about to purchase new prosthesis’
In the end, long is happy that they could help Brands. “Sure jokes have been made about it, also under the Facebook message, such as: he literally put his best foot forward, hopefully he will not get out of bed with his wrong leg or he probably lives on the Beenstraat in Emmen. But we like we can help him.”
This morning the artificial leg of Brands was picked up by a friend at the broker. “I am very happy with it. I was already about to request a new prosthesis,” says Brands. “That is no longer necessary. I literally couldn’t go anywhere, but it is a good story.”
