His Majesty de Koning and Prime Minister Schoof Wonen The National Commemoration of the Capitulation of Japan on 15 August 1945 on Friday evening 15 August. The commemoration takes place at the Indian Monument in The Hague. The king gives a speech during the ceremony and lays the first wreath.
The Prime Minister, State Secretary Tielen of Health, Welfare and Sport and the chairmen of the Upper and Lower House also lay a wreath. At the end of the ceremony, King Willem-Alexander opens the parade along the Indian monument.
With the capitulation of Japan, the Second World War came to an end eighty years ago. This freed the entire Kingdom of the Netherlands on August 15, 1945. The National Remembrance Foundation 15 August 1945 organizes an annual commemoration for all victims of the Japanese occupation of the Dutch East Indies.
