Werner still has a contract with the Leipzigers until summer 2026. Most recently, he played one and a half years on loan for Tottenham. At the English Premier League club, Werner came up with 41 missions, in which he scored three goals. The London club therefore had a firm obligation. New York and a new footballing adventure in the United States have been considered Werner’s chosen destination in the past few days, where he would meet his former Leipzig teammate Emil Forsberg, the club is trained from the Major League Soccer from Sandro Schwarz.
But now the fronts seem to have hardened in the course of the negotiations. According to the report, the player page pans to maintain the current salary of the professional at the new club. Consultant Volker Struth from the “Sports360” agency demands around 10 million euros per contract year for his client, writes the “Bild” newspaper. For comparison: Werner’s former team-mate Forsberg is one of the top earners in the Red Bulls squad with a rained annual salary of EUR 5.4 million, overall the complete undersignment should only be minimally above the Werners salary request in the lowlands of the MLS.
The 57-fold international Werner was once estimated at 80 million euros in market value, five of which was still left for EUR 7 million five years later. However, this sum is still sufficient to become the New York Red Bulls in the event of a change to by far the most valuable player in the black squad. Negotiations are being carried out behind the scenes and looking for solutions, according to “Bild”, Red Bull Boss Oliver Mintzlaff is also involved. In Leipzig, Werner’s start of training on July 11th is planned again for the time being.
