After the judgment on the forced descent into the Ligue 2, the traditional club Olympique Lyon must provide very high financial resources in order to annoy the decision and a possible remaining in the highest French division. According to “L’équipe”, the appeal procedure will take place on July 10, so until then 100 million euros must have been received in the OL account. In addition, another 100 million euros are required as a guarantee for the next season, the newspaper continues.
It remains to be seen whether Lyon of 200 million euros, of which only half of which will initially have to enter into the account by next Thursday, will be able to shell out. The sixth in the table of the past season was reported to be in debt at the end of 2024, which is why a forced relegation was initially imposed on probation and in the past week in the first instance. Club owner John Textor had then resigned from his management functions. The previous majority owner of the OL wife team, US businessman Michele Kang, then took over the chairmanship and the post of the managing director in Textors Holding Eagle Football.
According to a report by “RMC Sport”, Kang and the investment fund Ares, who is already a lender of Textors Holding, are to be able to ensure that the first 100 million is shared until next week. Textor himself announced after the judgment and before he retired: “We will go to the appeal to show that we are able to provide the necessary means in the form of cash flow to guarantee the survival of OL in the L1.”
