The mobile unit (ME) of the police were deployed tonight in the Tuindorp district in Coevorden. A pile of wood has been set on a field on the Alderman Donkerstraat: a violation of the emergency regulation issued last night.
The ME was ready in Emmen all evening in case it would go wrong in Coevorden. Around 11 p.m. the ME decided to go into the neighborhood together with the fire brigade. The fire was quickly extinguished, after which the emergency services left again. The peace has returned in the neighborhood.
Earlier in the evening, a group of around 20 to 25 people hung around the street. According to several 112 photographers who are in the neighborhood, most people dripped the moment the ME Tuindorp entered.
Mayor Renze Bergsma was called away from a meeting of the city council, who was currently working at that time because of the fire in Tuindorp. De ME may only take action after permission from the mayor.
It has been restless in Tuindorp for almost a week, after the municipality decided to compensate for fourteen minor status holders in the neighborhood. The residents are afraid that they will cause nuisance.
Cars and supporters were set on fire in the past week on various evenings. Mayor Bergsma then decided to issue an emergency regulation, in which he forbidden, among other things, to have fire in public places and to have weapons in his pocket.
If the emergency regulation is violated, the perpetrators will be a prison sentence of a maximum of three months or a fine above the head.
