Bundesliga promoted HSV has committed attacker Rayan Philippe. He comes from the second division club Eintracht Braunschweig and was there on Wednesday at the Hamburg training session.
The Frenchman has been a candidate at HSV for a long time. However, negotiations on the transfer with Eintracht ran over several weeks. Now an agreement has been reached. According to media reports, the Hamburgers pay around three million euros. Philippe receives a four -year contract.
“Rayan fits optimally in our requirement profile as a versatile and mobile offensive player. He impresses with speed, depth and risk of scoring,” said HSV sports director Claus Costa.
The 24-year-old had moved to Braunschweig for the 2023/24 season and played a total of 63 competitive games for the Lower Saxony during this time. He scored 22 goals and prepared eleven more.
First training session with four new additions
Philippe entered the first public training session since the summer break at temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius with his new teammates and coach Merlin Polzin. “We have made a few adjustments to use a few more drinking breaks. But that’s all the end of it,” said Polzin, who had forwarded the training as a precaution from 2 p.m. to 11 a.m.
In addition to the attacker, there were three other new additions in midfielder Nicolai Remberg (Kiel), central defender Jordan Torunarigha (Ghent) and goalkeeper talent Fernando Dickes (Leipzig).
Selke’s future further unclear
“It is an absolutely huge tingling. We are simply looking forward to what is coming,” said Polzin with a view to the upcoming season in the Bundesliga: “That the challenge that is now waiting for us is certainly not smaller than in the 2nd division – that is clear to all of us.”
“This greed and the desire for the new, for the first time, to be able to work personally in the Bundesliga for me, is simply huge.”

Davie Selke was not on the pitch. The contract of the second division goalkeeper of the past season expired on June 30th. There are discussions about an extension, but they have not been successful so far. In any case, the HSV is still far from a finished squad for the upcoming Bundesliga season.
The squad should be further reinforced
Sports board member Stefan Kuntz has emphasized several times that the team needs further reinforcements. But: “Teams such as Augsburg, Mainz or Freiburg have ten years ahead of us.
“Unfortunately, there is often a difference between desire and reality,” says Kuntz about his tricky task: “But of course we have to strengthen ourselves. This is our goal. Of course always within the framework of the feasible.”
Sales or borrowing could reduce the very large squad and thus also ensure financial scope. Ludovit Reis was released to FC Bruges. However, there are currently no further departures in sight, especially since the players at HSV usually have well -endowed contracts that do not make a change easier.
