Tatjana Maria missed the move into the second round at the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon. The now 37-year-old lost her opening match at the lawn classic on Tuesday against the American Katie Elynets after exhausting three sets with 6: 3, 6: 7) and 1: 6.
Against the fourteen years younger Elynets, Maria played particularly well in the first sentence, forced the American with her unorthodox game with backhand and forehand slice again and again and was on hand herself when she had the chance of a network attack. After a good half hour and a double break after the 3: 3, Maria had won the first set.
Second round goes to Plynets
In the second round, however, it should not be so simple and, above all, quickly. Both opponents now fought a sweaty up and down in the midday heat of the British capital, but nobody could settle. At 4: 4, Maria secured the supposedly decisive break, but peeps countered and won the rebreak directly.
