It is a bit less warm on Tuesday evening than during the day, but the warmth gets out of your house? HO. It is still warming warm in the house and an air conditioner in every room is no longer the solution. But what then?
A air conditioning eats energy and letting a fan run is not a solution. We all know that. Not so, according to Lisanne Havinga. The 34-year-old Utrechtse is an assistant professor Building Performance (building performance) at TU/e in Eindhoven.
Havinga believes that a fan is incredibly useful for cooling. Once it has cooled in the evening, she advises to open windows above and down. Then comes the trick: Place the fan in the upper room in about one and a half to two meters away from the window.
“It sounds strange, but then focuses that fan on the open window. That creates an underpressure in the other spaces. A kind of chimney effect that sucks and drains the warm air. Do this preferably at night, with natural measures for burglary safety. You can also set the alarm and do it in the early morning.”
“It is very strange that we have few demands on summer comfort in the Netherlands.”
Havinga is also a member of the Management Team of Eindhoven Institute for Renewable Energy Systems (EIRES). It is therefore responsible for the government for the development of new advice to make it more sustainable. And they are much needed, Havinga believes, because the overheating of houses is mainly due to how we are used to building.
“It is actually very strange that we set many requirements for winter comfort in homes in the Netherlands, but not for summer comfort. We assume temperatures of 10 degrees below zero and strong wind. That way is hardly anymore.”
“We should take the living comfort in the summer much more into account. When designing houses, overheating can really be limited. I see that housing associations are busy with sustainability, but insulating does not make your home cooler. That is claimed everywhere, but that is really a myth. And they don’t feel responsible for sun protection.”
“Think with every sunbeam that enters your home: Help!”
Sun protection. The high word is out. “The greatest culprit is by far the biggest culprit. Closing all doors and windows helps, but ensuring that no sunbeam can shine in your home, is assignment number one. That really doesn’t have to cost much, because nowadays you have cheap sunscarves that you can stick on your windows with suction cups. Take work on that, because the summers will not be cooler in the coming years. ”
How long does it stay warm?
Tuesday evening it is still hot for a long time with 29 to 32 degrees at nine in the evening. In the night it cools to 19 degrees. In inner cities the mercury remains above 20 degrees.
On Wednesday it will be 31 degrees in the west of the province to possibly 37 degrees in the far east. In the afternoon the chance of a thunderstorm rises, especially in the east there is also a chance of hail and gusts of wind.
A north -west wind also increases, which follows cooling in the afternoon and evening.
