Just like Sunday evening, it is also restless again tonight in the Tuindorp district in Coevorden. A group of a few dozen people is going and a trailer has flown the fire.
Yesterday, around 80 to 90 people demonstrated against the decision of the municipality of Coevorden to compensate for a group of fourteen minor refugees in the Tuindorp district. Banners with ‘enough is enough’ and ‘own people first’ were hung in the protest in the neighborhood yesterday.
The fire brigade has not yet started extinguishing the trailer. Together with the police, they gather at the barracks in the area. It is not clear whether they will still take action.
Even today there was another banner with ‘enough is enough’ to see. The protesters fear the quality of life and safety in the neighborhood. “Our children are walking around here and you don’t know what can happen,” said a worried local earlier today against RTV Drenthe.
Local residents felt lied to, because the municipality spoke of girls at earlier information meetings, while on closer inspection, it would be boys. Youth assistance organization Elker says that girls are being placed at the location in the JC Homanstraat, but “we don’t know if the situation always stays the same.”
This afternoon there was also a counter noise shown on a place name sign. For example, there was “Coevorden, where everyone is welcome.” It is not known who hung this board.
