Formula 1 remains in Spielberg for a long time. A contract that surprises – and a location that sets signs.
The Grand Prix of Austria remains an integral part of the Formula 1 calendar-for a long time. As confirmed on Sunday, the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg will receive a new record contract: Up to and including 2041, the premier class of motorsport will be guests in Styria.
The route next to Miami is the only venue with such a long -term agreement. F1 boss Stefano Domenicali spoke of a “very special race” that was “deeply rooted in the history of sport”. The historical reference also plays a role: A Grand Prix was held for the first time at the Austrian Ring in 1970. After several breaks, Formula 1 2014 returned under the initiative of Dietrich Mateschitz.
His son Mark Mateschitz, owner of the Red Bull Ring, emphasizes that he “proudly fulfills my father’s path”. The close connection of Austria with Formula 1 is a strong basis for the future.
Formula 1 had only extended the contract until 2030 in 2023 – now the long -term protection will follow by 2041. Despite growing competition worldwide, Spielberg secures a place in the future of the premier class.
