Several windows and skylights in the Deurnese street atalanta have been destroyed by steel balls. The balls were probably shot with a slingshot. It concerns steel balls with an average of about an inch. Residents are worried, especially after a skylight was crushed this week. “They go straight through the glass.”
“We were eating in the garden on Monday evening when we heard a big blow to the skylight,” says resident Ron Zijpveld. “We were shocked. It was a big blow to the window, because the skylight is completely shattered.”
Once recovered from the shock, Ron saw the culprit lying on the floor: a steel ball of an inch in size. It was shot right through the glass. “This could have ended very differently. It is waiting for people to fall,” says the concerned resident.

The shattered skylight does not stand on its own, the problems with the shot steel balls have been playing for some time. “Balls are found in gardens more often. Many roof yards, skylights and garden doors have sustained stars,” says Ron.
“The balls go straight through glass.”
Three years ago, a ball ended up on his skylight three years ago. “The window has sustained a big scratch. We first thought of a bad boy’s region, because it has been quiet for a year and a half. But now it has started again,” says the neighbor.

Mark has even taken measures to prevent his daughter from happening. “The balls arrive hard and go straight through glass. My daughter just plays in the garden here and we are worried about it. We have already moved her to a bedroom on the other side of the house to prevent the glass from jumping,” he says.
Ron and other local residents think that the balls are being shot with a slingshot from the side of the Randweg. “You don’t hear a bang as if a gun is going on. Maybe someone is bothered by pigeons and he or she has no idea where the balls end up, but it is dangerous. I hope it stops, because I am completely done with it,” he says.
The size is full for the local residents. They have reported the destruction and hope that the police will soon find the perpetrator. “You just have to be able to sit in your own garden,” Ron closes.
