FC Volendam takes over defender UGWU from Ajax
FC Volendam has taken over Precious Ugwu from Ajax. The 19-year-old defender, who became the Orange under 19 European champion on Thursday evening, signed a contract for three seasons.
UGWU has been playing in Ajax’s youth academy since 2014. In February 2024 he made his debut in the Kitchen Champion Division for Young Ajax and played 31 matches for the team. The defender was also on the couch with the first team a few times, but he did not get any playing minutes.
“Precious is an uncut diamond that comes into its own as a central defender,” says Patrick Busby technical director of Volendam. “He is a brand new European champion, who has been all competitions at the European Championship. Defensively, he is strong in dueling, he has a good speed and he can shoot excellent. We foresee that he will make a big progress at FC Volendam.”
