Handball star Mathias Gidsel by the German Master Füchse Berlin has been awarded the European Association (EHF) as the most valuable player of the past season.
The EHF announced this as part of the group draw of the upcoming Champions League season on Friday in Vienna. The 26-year-old Dane had led the foxes to the first championship in club history and reached the Champions League final with the Berliners as a top scorer, with his country he won the World Cup at the beginning of the year.
“I do not take it for granted, and at the same time it would not be possible without my teammates, the club, the coaches, the staff and the whole team behind it,” said Rückraumstar Gidsel, who is already two -time world handball players.
The election of Gidsel is “without an alternative”, commented Füchse managing director Bob Hanning: “His personal development with the Foxes Berlin and in the Danish national team is as rapidly as not with any other player in world handball. He has done himself and the others better. There can be no deserved award.”
In the women, the Norwegian playmaker Henny Reistad (Team Esbjerg/Denmark) received the so -called EHF Excellence Awards 2025, Spaniard Ian Barrufet from Bundesliga club MT Melsungen was awarded the best young player.
