Den Haag (dpa -AfX) – climate protectors try to fill part of the city highway in the Haag. According to the police, a few dozen demonstrators of the Organization Extinction Rebellion have gathered in the center of the city on the city highway A12. Police officers had stopped demonstrators in several places. The protests are about eight kilometers from the conference center, in which the NATO summit meets at the time.
According to reporters, there were occasional disputes when the police were deployed. The police would have used batons. Demonstrators would make music and sing songs to peace in the Gaza Strip and climate protection.
Blockade prevented
The day before, climate protection officers had tried to fill another highway near the Hague. The police had prevented this and temporarily arrested.
The NATO summit with 32 head of state and government, including US President Donald Trump, is the largest security operation for the Netherlands. The conference center is about eight kilometers from the highway who want to occupy the most active.
In the past few months there had also been violent clashes between the police and climate protectionists in the Hague./xx/dp/stw
