According to the incident around DFB defense chief Antonio Rüdiger, the FIFA football association initiated a disciplinary proceedings against Gustavo Cabral from the Mexican club CF Pachuca.

At the end of the game between Real Madrid and Pachuca, Cabral is said to have racially insulted at the club World Cup last Sunday.

“After evaluating the game reports, the FIFA disciplinary commission has initiated a trial against the player Gustavo Cabral from the CF Pachuca in connection with the incident between him and Antonio Rüdiger von Real Madrid during the game of the FIFA Club World Championship in Charlotte”explained the world association.

What words fell in the word battle?

The German international Rüdiger had clashed with the Argentinier Cabral in the added time of the group game between Real Madrid and Pachuca. There was a word change. Referee Abatti sent both players away, then Rüdiger came back to him and probably reported on racist insult.

As a result, referee Ramon Abatti Abel from Brazil crossed his arms in front of the chest – it has been a signal introduced by FIFA since 2024 to point out an incident of racism at the tournaments of the World Association.

But what words fell? Gustavo Cabral denied the accusation of having expressed himself racist: “It was not racist. I called him a ‘Cagón de Mierda’ (about ‘Dämmer Feigling’, editor’s note). That was all.” Spanish media such as the newspaper “El Mundo” reported an insult to Rüdiger’s skin color.

Real Madrid’s coach Xabi Alonso stood behind Rüdiger and said: “This is unacceptable and we believe what he said. The incident is currently being examined.” Pachuca’s coach Jaime Lozano performed similarly with a view of Cabral: “I will talk to him, but as I know him, something like that has never happened to him. I can put my hand in the fire for my captain.”

FIFA initially had Anti-racism campaign dispensed with

At the club World Cup, FIFA had initially dispensed with a report by the portal “The Athletic” on an anti-racism campaign that was actually planned. The world association is said to have developed campaign material against racism and discrimination, but did not use it in the United States.

The FIFA did not comment on this at first, but showed a video on Wednesday at the “International Day against Hass speech” that is directed against racism and explains the gesture with the crossed arms. FIFA announced that it is pursuing a “fixed zero tolerance attitude against all forms of racism and discrimination”.
