Residents of Woonzorgcentrum De Driemaster in Smilde today had a special TT afternoon. Employees had arranged that a few dozen motorbikes visited the residential care center. “Because these residents themselves can no longer go to a party, we would like to offer them a party,” says carer Ivon Milané.
Just before three o’clock the residents had gathered for the care home. At three o’clock the engines came by torn. Two residents are also allowed a bit on the back. “Nice young,” says one. The Smildenaar used to look at the TT. “We lived on the Kanaalweg and then they raced along. Beautiful young. Really beautiful.”
The 96-year-old Jaap Blomberg also enjoys the TT party in his care home to the fullest. “That we can still experience this on our old age.” Blomberg was born in 1929. From 1935 he experienced all the TTs. “On Friday evening we always went through the Rolderstraat, and just over the fair. And then we bought half a chicken. We tucked it up, and then we went back on the bike.”
This time not half chicken for Mr. Blomberg, but a hamburger sandwich. “I don’t really know why, but a hamburger sandwich is just part of the TT,” says Milané. Whether it tasted? “Nothing wrong with that,” said Blomberg.
