The German criminal case against child abuser Benno L. has been handled. L. appealed against the TBS measure that was imposed on him. The court in Aachen has unanimously decided that Benno L.’s appeal is unfounded and so there will be no new session. The Bossche swimming teacher was previously sentenced to 9 years in prison and now that is definitively on top.
In 2010, L. received 6 years in prison for the abuse of dozens of girls during his swimming lessons in the Den Bosch region. He was also convicted of making and possessing child pornography. L. took photos and videos of the children he taught.
Guitar lessons and stay with helpful ‘grandfather’
After L. has served two thirds of his sentence in the Netherlands, he is released. Later L. moves to Germany where he again makes victims. Under the name Hans Peter he starts a new life and emerges into a helpful ‘grandfather’. In his new hometown of Düren, he becomes friends with two vulnerable families.
L. gives the children – five girls between 3 and 11 years old – guitar lessons and helps their parents write letters. The bond between L. and the two families is becoming increasingly closer. L. became a substitute grandfather. He went swimming with the children, on vacation and the children even stayed with him.
Secretly film children
The children not only sleep in a guest room, but also with ‘grandpa’ Benno in bed. Benno knows how to touch the children in a playful way and let them come into contact with his genitals. Until a Jeugdzorg employee rings when one of the German girls tells how ‘Hans Peter’ is in bed next to her while staying.
Benno is arrested. L.’s apartment appears to be full of cameras and in the bedroom the police later find a webcam that is focused on the bed. Benno secretly made recordings of the girls when they dried, while changing clothes and playing, but also when they were in bed.
Appeal
Benno L. is convicted of 2023 in Aachen for sexual abuse and making and possessing child pornography. In the summer of 2024, L. is sentenced to 9 years in prison on appeal. The TBS measure was added in December 2024. L. wanted to appeal against this TBS measure, but this request has now been declared unfounded by the court.
