In the Netherlands, courts are the first judicial authority where the handling of a case takes place. They deal with cases in administrative and tax law, civil law and criminal law. The Netherlands has 11 courts: Amsterdam, The Hague, Gelderland, Limburg, Central Netherlands, Noord-Holland, Northern Netherlands, Oost-Brabant, Overijssel, Rotterdam and Zeeland-West-Brabant. An appeal is possible after handling a case at the court. Depending on the type of law, an appeal takes place at a court, the Council of State, the Central Appeals Board or the Appeals Tribunal for the Business.
