The prestigious architectural competition Prix Versailles listed the world’s most beautiful restaurants this week. The prestigious international recognition highlights unique architecture and aesthetics that are culturally meaningful.
The list includes 16 recently opened restaurants from different corners of the world. There is also Hans Välimäki and Maria von Gravenitz-Välimäki Bouchon Carême, opened in August 2024.
The restaurant is located in Aleksanterinkatu 13 in Helsinki Selim A. Lindqvist in a historic building designed in 1900. House Finland’s first building specifically designed as a department store. In his justification, Prix Versailles thanks Bouchon Carême for being perfectly suited to the city.

Hans Välimäki is delighted with the recognition.
– Our goal was to create a restaurant that respects the historical nature of the building, but at the same time it feels warm, inviting and modern. We wanted to combine the original architectural features such as brick walls, cast iron poles and large arc windows with a modern space solution that supports social and relaxed dining experience, Välimäki writes on his Instagram page.
“We are really taken from this recognition and we are particularly happy that the most beautiful toilet in Helsinki may even be the most beautiful in the world,” he continues.
The winners of the top sixteen will be announced in December 2025.
