He used to be at home in the snow, now on the bike routes in Europe. Florian Lipowitz recently could keep up with the big ones – and soon also play an important role on the tour.

Florian Lipowitz was once on skis and at the shooting range. The German cyclist used to be a biathlete and also made it into the national squad. He also became German champion with the juniors. He had to train on the bike through injuries and a cruciate ligament tear and liked it – now he is one of the German hope for the Tour de France (July 5th to 27th).

Although his team Lipowitz has not yet nominated, the 24-year-old has recently impressively demonstrated that he can keep up with the very large of cycling. During the Dauphiné tour in France, Lipowitz from Team Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe behind Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) and Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease A Bike) made it onto the podium-and was also better than Remco Evenepoel, which is also one of the best cycling stars.

It is not yet clear what role Lipowitz will play at the Tour de France. He could support Primož Roglič as a noble helper, but the last time he had to get out of the Giro d’Italia. Nevertheless, Lipowitz said with a view to the cycling highlight at Eurosport: “The plan is that I help Primož Roglič. He is the leader, he is super strong and has proven that he can drive very quickly over three weeks. My goal will be to help him in the climbs.”

Lipowitz added: “I think I have shown here that I am great in shape and can also make a difference.” That should also make the Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe team a good feeling.
