Bernard Lacombe, one of the French European football champions from 1984, is dead. The former center forward, who scored 255 goals in 497 Ligue-1 games, died on Tuesday at the age of 72.
This announced his “Eternal Favorite Club” Olympique Lyon, in which Lacombe had become a national player and for whom he later also worked as a sports director, coach and consultant.
Greatest successes with Girondin’s Bordeaux
However, Lacombe celebrated his greatest success as a player in club football with Girondin’s Bordeaux, three times he won the French championship, and he also scored twelve goals in 38 international matches.
To date, only the Argentinian Delio Onnis (299) in France’s top league has hit more often than Lacombe, who also celebrated three cup wins and took part in the 1978 and 1982 World Championships.
