Miriam Butkereit gave the German Judo Association (DJB) the second medal at the World Championships in Budapest on Tuesday. The Olympic silver medalist won bronze in the class up to 70 kilograms by winning the Australian Aoife Coughlan.

Mascha Ballhaus (up to 52 kg) had already won the bronze medal on Saturday. Butkereit (Halle) failed in the quarter -finals on the later winner Shiho Tanaka (Japan), but defeated Elisavet Teltsidou (Greece) in the consolation round. In the following fight with Coughlan, the 31-year-old secured her first World Cup individual medal almost a year after her silver coup at the summer games in Paris.

Alina Böhm also hopes for a medal

On Wednesday, the two -time European champion Alina Böhm will start in the class up to 78 kg as the next medal hope for the DJB. The title fights in Hungary end on Friday. The individual decisions will be held by Thursday, and the mixed competition will take place on the final day.
