With his first lawn title, it wasn’t for Alexander Zverev. Once again, one stood in the way, of whom he, according to his own statement, is slowly fed up.

Alexander Zverev had hardly completed the last ball change, when the Stuttgart audience was already looking for encouraging words. “Sascha, Wimbledon!” Cried a fan – an indication of the next big goal. The world ranking was not long. “Don’t worry, I’m going to win Wimbledon,” he replied with a smile.

Zverev is still waiting for his first title for lawn. He was also denied at the tournament in Stuttgart. In the final, the 27-year-old lost for the fifth time in series against Taylor Fritz-3: 6, 6: 7 (0: 7) it was said after 1:25 hours. An early break in the first set and a clear tie -break in the second round made the difference.

After five wins from the first eight duels with the American, Fritz has developed into an absolute fear opponent for German number one since 2024. Zverev lost the last four out of five duels in 2024. And now also the first 2025, which continued the black series. Overall, from Zverev’s point of view, the balance is now 5: 8 in a direct duel.

With a good portion of Sarkasmus, Zverev joked at the award ceremony towards his opponent, against whom he simply cannot win: “I have something of your way from you, stay away from me. Please don’t come to Germany for the next two or three years.” Then he looked ahead. The next goal is the Finale of the French Open in the coming year. If that is not possible, he looks forward to returning to Stuttgart.

The game had to be interrupted shortly after the beginning of the second sentence for rain for more than an hour. After the break, a competitive match developed – at least to the Tiebreak, in which Zverev stayed without a chance.

Fritz already secured his fourth title on lawn. Overall, it is the ninth tournament for the American.

The German had traveled with anger and disappointment. In Roland Garros, he had ended in the quarter -finals. In addition, he had publicly dealt with Boris Becker about his criticism in the days before. Zverev said about the expert: “If I am doing badly, everyone is suddenly very, very clever. Unfortunately, Boris is part of it.”

In Stuttgart, the Olympic champion had reached a lawn tournament final for the first time since Hall in 2017. He used the week on Killesberg primarily to prepare for Wimbledon, which begins on June 30th. Despite the high temperatures, he also worked intensively on his fitness outside of the matches.

However, it was not enough for his 25th title on the ATP tour. Zverev will get the next opportunity in the coming week at the tournament in Halle/Westphalia. He left shortly after the final in Stuttgart. In Westphalia he meets the American Marcos Giron at the start. The most world ranking Jannik Sinner is also in Halle.
