09:38
Mina Fuerst Holtmann (NOR)
The Norwegian shows a strong drive and gets the best out of what is still possible at the Roc de For in Méribel. From rank 13, Mina Fuerst Holtmann can attack again in the second round.
09:37
Ana Bucik (SLO)
Ana Bucik tries a very narrow line, but even that doesn’t help on this soft track. 18th place only.
09:34
Paula Moltzan (USA)
Paula Moltzan does everything in her power and fights for every meter, but she can’t even get close to the front when the conditions are significantly worsening. Only Wendy Holdener was slower.
09:32
Maria Therese Tviberg (NOR)
The track now softens significantly in the blazing sunshine and even with a perfect line you can hardly come close to the top times. However, Maria Therese Tviberg also made some technical mistakes and lost accordingly.
09:31
Wendy Holdener (SUI)
Wendy Holdener’s strengths are also more in slalom. The Swiss knew early on that nothing would work here today and finished her run almost four seconds behind.
09:30
Catherine Liensberger (AUT)
Katharina Liensberger had a strong season in slalom, but just doesn’t really get along in giant slalom. The last risk to really attack the top times is missing. The Austrian slips too much and keeps losing. Now we already have four Austrians at the end of the field.
09:26
Coralie Frasse Sombet (FRA)
Can Coralie Frasse Sombet step in for Tessa Worley and make a splash at home? It looks like that at first, because the French starts well, but later gets pushed a bit too far. Ultimately, it is just behind her compatriot in eleventh place.
09:24
Michelle Gisin (SUI)
Michelle Gisin had a bad fall in the slalom yesterday, but doesn’t show it today and has a clean run. The increasingly softening track no longer allows for top times, but the Swiss keeps the gap within limits. rank nine.
09:22
Ramona Siebenhofer (AUT)
Ramona Siebenhofer does not get off well at all and loses more than a second at the top. Pretty much everything is missing in this run and we already have three Austrians at the end of the ranking.
09:21
Lara Gut-Behrami (SUI)
Lara Gut-Behrami then shows that something is definitely still possible here! The 30-year-old Swiss races close to the gates, drifts significantly more than the other drivers and is rewarded with fifth place.
09:20
Catherine Troupe (AUT)
Katharina Truppe is also unable to perform and has serious problems with this slope in Méribel. Just like her compatriots Troupe, she gets banged up for over two seconds.
09:17
Valerie Grenier (CAN)
Valérie Grenier can’t really let the boards go either, edged up too much several times and thus stole the pace. For a long time, the Canadian stays in touch, but then she clearly loses in the last few meters.
09:15
Ricarda Haaser (AUT)
The first of six Austrians is Ricarda Haaser! The 28-year-old doesn’t get along here at all and has to be clearly torn off in the simple upper part. Unfortunately, only the start number flashes as a position in the line.
09:14
Maryna Gasienica Daniel (POL)
Maryna Gasienica Daniel has often been in the top ten recently. The Pole is on the road with a lot of speed, but takes one or two detours and that costs time. Sixth place is up for now.
09:12
Federica Brignone (ITA)
Attack! Federica Brignone attacked from the first goal and was ahead at half-time. Can she keep up with Shiffrin below too? No! The American performed magic in the second half and also took almost a second off Brignone.
09:10
Sara Hector (SWE)
And Sarah Hector? The Swede recently fell at the home game in Åre and is driving with knee pain. And you can tell! Hector has to make several corrections, cannot master the pitfalls of this route and struggles to cross the finish line more than two seconds behind.
09:08
Tessa Worley (FRA)
Now come the two leaders in the discipline ranking. Tessa Worley is allowed to submit to Sara Hector, but takes it easy. However, this race will be decided in the technically more demanding lower part. But the Frenchwoman can’t match Mikaela Shiffrin’s performance there either and falls far behind!
09:07
Petra Vlhova (SVK)
Petra Vlhová has already won the crystal ball in slalom. In the giant slalom, however, the Slovakian has her problems and is surprised by a wave that throws her off the ideal line. That costs a whole second and their chances of winning vanish immediately.
09:05
Marta Bassino (ITA)
Marta Bassino is the first of three Italians looking to attack at the top here. However, the 26-year-old loses the line early after a slide and gets half a second banged up. Bassino is no longer catching up and falls even further behind.
09:03
Mikaela Shiffrin (USA)
Now comes the overall World Cup winner! Mikaela Shiffrin makes a small technical mistake in the upper part, but makes up for it with top speed in the middle part. The US-American is constantly expanding, easily overcomes the two crisp waves on the course and is clearly in front.
09:02
Ragnhild Mowinckel (NOR)
Ragnhild Mowinckel opens the World Cup final in giant slalom! The Norwegian got off to a solid start on the course set by the Slovakian coach, then got on well on a sun-drenched but still icy track and set the first best time. What this is worth, we will know in a few minutes.
08:50
Trio from Switzerland
Switzerland sends three riders into this final giant slalom of the winter. Michelle Gisin was already on the podium at the race in nearby Courchevel in December and of course she would like to repeat that here. Lara Gut-Behrami was second in the Sölden giant slalom and can also go all the way to the front. Today’s squad is completed by Wendy Holdener.
08:44
Troop leads ÖSV team
Austria is back today with a large contingent. Almost a quarter of the starting field wears red-white-red. The best ÖSV athlete in the giant slalom World Cup is Katharina Truppe in tenth place. Ramona Siebenhofer and Ricard Haaser are also counting on a good result. Katharina Liensberger and Stephanie Brunner as well as the 22-year-old Junior World Champion Magdalena Egger will also start.
08:35
No DSV participation
The season is already over for the German women’s team. After Lena Dürr’s second place in yesterday’s slalom, there will be nothing to celebrate today, as there is no DSV runner in the top 25 in the giant slalom ranking and therefore not eligible to start in this World Cup final.
08:31
Who will grab the little crystal ball?
In the overall World Cup, the decision in favor of Mikaela Shiffrin has already been made. In the giant slalom discipline classification, on the other hand, everything is still open and it could hardly be more exciting. Before the final, Sweden’s Sara Hector (522 points) is five points ahead of Tessa Worley from France. Shiffrin (471) still has chances for the small crystal ball in third place. Theoretically, Petra Vlhová (431) can still climb to the top if she wins here.
08:30
