Julia Krajewski secured the title at the German championships in eventing in the event of Luhmühlen in Lower Saxony. The Tokyo Olympic champion was a class of its own with her horse Nickel.
After the 36-year-old from Langenhagen was already in the lead with only 27.7 minus points in the internationally advertised four-star test for the national title, she also presented herself on Sunday with the eleven-year-old Nickel from the breeding of Hindrick Stüvel.
With an error -free ride in 73.35 seconds, Krajewski impressively defended first place. In the championship ranking ahead of Emma Brüssau (Münster) with Dark Desire GS (34.5) and Calvin Böckmann Lastrup with Altair de la Cense (37.1). The New Zealanders Andrew Cooper with Sharvalley Thunder (34.5) and Clarke Johnstine (Rocket Man/36.5) broke through the German Phalanx as third and fourth overall.
“Our nickel is really, really special”
For Krajewski it is number four after 2018, 2019 and 2023. Last year’s winner Michael Jung (Bad Soden am Taunus) did not compete in Luhmühlen. “Our nickel is really, really special. I have the feeling that he makes half because he has such a big heart and is so ready to perform. And he feels better every year. My friend always says that he has never seen such a performance and honest horse,” said Kraevski to NDR.
The 36-year-old had double reason to be happy, since she has an intimate relationship with runner-up Brüssau and her horse Dark Desire GS: “I practically accompanied her from day one,” reveals Krajewski, who also found it “cool” if the Münsteran had won the title.
Although Brüssau has to wait at least a year for her first DM triumph, the 26-year-old was overjoyed over second place and announced: “We’ll be toast and maybe throw a party somewhere.”
