The method with a youth support and youth worker is from Friesland and is used for the first time in Noord-Holland. According to alderman Mary van Gent of the municipality of Hollands Kroon, society is changing rapidly, the pressure on youth assistance is increasing and this way of working can occur many problems or nip in the bud.
“The most important thing is that children can live stress -free, because otherwise they can’t learn well,” says Van Gent. “We notice that the demand for youth assistance has risen rapidly since Corona. We see several things passing by. Digitization is a big problem. You see that not only the children, but also the parents are busy on their phone. The contact with each other is different.”
Divorces cause stress
Another big problem that causes a lot of stress, his (fighting) divorces between parents, says the alderman: “The vast majority of the children who are coming to our municipality has to do with parents who break up with a fight. That yields so much tension. If that is noticed early, we can help the children and the parents immediately. You will prevent worse.”
