Data analysis
National coach Christian Wück has remained true to his clear line when nomination of the 23-member squad for the European Championship in Switzerland (July 2 to 27). The data analysis also provides information on how it could go even better with the team.
“I am happy, grateful and full of anticipation,” wrote Sara Däbritz after her nomination for the European Championship on her Instagram account, “play my fourth European Championship with this great team.” With her 108-international operations, the 30-year-old is by far the most experienced player in the Wück squad. And she is the only one who has ever won a European championship – in 2013 it was already. Since then, Germany has been waiting for a title.
In Switzerland, the midfielder, whose new club is not yet known after the announced farewell to Olympique Lyon, is not yet known. However, the national coach did not make it clear with the European Championship squad that he does not nominate not the most famous players, but the ones who best fit into the 4-2-3-1 system he specified. Or in short: system appreciation before class.
But even if the injury -plagued Däbritz was only used in four out of ten games under Wück, the data from Global Soccer Network (GSN) clearly show that it still has a great sporting value: “Däbritz is almost ideal for the role of ten: calm, combined, pressing -resistant, with high decision quality.” Wück’s game idea needs “linking actions” – and that is exactly its strength. “Däbritz is a tenth who thinks like a six -man, but plays like an offensive power.”
Cadre Exactly according to Wück’s line
Wück has stringent his line in recent months. A total of 34 players have been deployed since taking office. The final squad, which is supposed to win the ninth title for the record European champion in Switzerland, then came out without major surprises. According to GSN, Wück “met his nominations in the core system -compliant, structurally conscious and function -oriented”.
The German EM squad at a glance
Goal:
1 Ann-Katrin Berger (NY/NJ Gotham)
12 Stina Johannes (Eintracht Frankfurt)
21 Ena Mahmutovic (FC Bayern Munich)
Defense:
7 Giulia Gwinn (FC Bayern Munich)
3 Kathrin Hendrich (VfL Wolfsburg)
17 Franziska Kett (FC Bayern Munich)
23 Sophia Kleinhernen (Eintracht Frankfurt)
4 Rebecca Knaak (Manchester City)
2 Sarai Linder (VfL Wolfsburg)
6 Janina Minge (VfL Wolfsburg)
5 Carlotta Wamser (Eintracht Frankfurt)
Midfield:
13 Sara Däbritz (Olympique Lyon)
16 Linda Dallmann (FC Bayern Munich)
8 Sydney Lohmann (FC Bayern Munich)
9 Sjoeke Nüsken (FC Chelsea)
20 Elisa Sense (Eintracht Frankfurt)
Storm:
22 Jule Brand (VfL Wolfsburg)
19 Klara Bühl (FC Bayern Munich)
15 Selina Cerci (TSG Hoffenheim)
10 Laura Freiegel (Eintracht Frankfurt)
18 Giovanna Hoffmann (RB Leipzig)
11 Lea Schüller (FC Bayern Munich)
14 Cora Zicai (SC Freiburg)
According to these principles, the analysts miss only two players in the squad: on the one hand Sara Doorsoun, who declared her international career over shortly before the squad was announced. At that time, the Frankfurt woman had apparently already learned that she would not be in the 23-man squad.
From a data view, also surprisingly only nominated on call is Paulina Krumbiegel. Juventus Turin’s outer lane all-rounder has scored four goals in eleven international matches so far. Her versatility actually makes her interesting for the 4-2-3-1. But Wück only used Krumbiegel once and now opted for other options.
GSN: Wück has a “deep understanding of tactical Cader architecture “
According to GSN, the Wück’s game system needs “clear zone casts, balance in the center, combination reliability in narrow rooms and variable outside”. The team should check the opponent through a clever position game and collectively secure against the ball. For this, the football teacher sets clear priorities.
Wück prefers players who …
- Put reliability before individualism;
- Structure of risk
- Role intelligence before actionism
The analysis comes to the conclusion that the squad has succeeded in a “balanced balancing act between systemic discipline and individual development”. In the contingent there are the expected pillars, but also “young or form -strong actors who (yet) do not (yet) have complete system maturity”. The two youngest in the squad – Franziska Kett and Cora Zicai are considered examples.
Overall, the national coach had put his contingent “methodically clear, consistently consistent and with a deep understanding of tactical squad architecture”. And in it the data experts see “the basis for systemic success at tournament level”.
Kleinherne, Lohmann and Däbritz with Starting team potential
This hope has also sought the success in the past few weeks with the clear victories against the Netherlands (4: 0) and in Austria (6: 0). A regular formation has already developed. With Ann-Katrin Berger in goal; Giulia Gwinn, Janina Minge, Rebecca Knaak and Sarai Linder in defense. Elisa Sense and Sjoeke Nüsken on the double six.
With Jule Brand and Klara Bühl on the offensive external positions and Lea Schüller in the storm center. The only question mark is behind the line -up of the tens position: Laura Freikang and Linda Dallmann recently switched to the position behind Schüller.
From a data point of view, however, the optimal list looks a little different: In addition to the build -up Knaak with Sophia Kleinhernen, there would be a physically stronger trained defender instead of mening (originally in midfield). On the double six, the analysts do not see Sense, but Sydney Lohmann, who is stronger on the offensive and could better complement Nüsken.
And on the ten, the Däbritz would be set, which showed itself so “happy and grateful” that she would be there again. She is trusted that she could determine the rhythm in German game.
