Will he be the new coach of Eintracht Braunschweig? Heiner Backhaus is the desired candidate at the Oker. His club Alemannia Aachen confirms the talks.
Exactly seven days remain until the preparation of the professionals of Eintracht Braunschweig for the upcoming season in the 2nd Bundesliga begins. The coaching question is still not clarified. But the BTSV is making progress: At the beginning of the week it became known that Heiner Backhaus from third division club Alemannia Aachen is at the top of the Eintracht ‘list of wishes.
According to the “Braunschweiger Zeitung”, the BTSV should already agree with the coach with regard to future cooperation. There would still be the agreement with his club Aachen, in which the bakery is under contract by 2027.
Alemannia Managing Director Ralf Bündgen confirmed the “Aachener Zeitung” at least the contact of Eintracht. The conversations about any change and the haggling for a transfer fee would now start, it says.
Backhaus had made it to the 3rd division with Aachen after taking office in the summer of 2023. In the past season he held the class confidently as a promoted. The 43-year-old had always emphasized that he feels good at Tivoli.
Correspondingly irritated, managing directors are reacting to the latest developments – especially since Backhaus is fully involved in the plans for the upcoming season. “A lot was parked here, we have been able to sign a lot of wish players from him in the past few weeks,” said Bündgen to the “AZ”. “If he went, he would have earned an Oscar for the acting performance. He always told us and the fans about his great love for Alemannia.”
In Braunschweig he is supposed to fill the hole that Daniel Schering’s dismissal had left before the relegation games. Its assistant Marc Pfitzner jumped in as an interim solution for two games and, according to the will of the management, should work as an assistant coach of Backhaus in the future. Both completed their training as a football teacher together.
In his active professional career, Backhaus had played for Rot-Weiß Essen, Hannover 96 and Union Berlin, among others, before working in four different countries. As a trainer, he worked for BSV Rehden, Rot-Weiß Koblenz and the BFC Dynamo in Berlin before led back to the 3rd division to the former Bundesliga club Aachen in 2024.
