A brand new production is made for the 80th anniversary of the Shakespeare theater in Diever. This time the group does not play a piece by Shakespeare itself, but a homemade piece about Shakespeare: The strong will.

“It will be a Shakespearean comedy, with tragic sides of course,” says artistic director Jack Nieborg. The theater association already started developing the piece in 2023, written by Jan Veldman. “We make a performance that takes place behind the scenes of a theater company, in the time of William Shakespeare.”

The story is about money, ambition and power that determine who is successful. The person must also be a man, something that the young talented Kate Fletcher is not satisfied with. “Disguised as a man, she conquers a place as a playwright,” said the theater. “It doesn’t seem to stand in the way. Until a rich widow and lender from the company falls in love with Kate dressed as a man.”

The roles are already divided, but for the piece they are still looking for choral singers. “We are looking for all kinds of singers. The most important thing: you have to love singing.”

In October the association starts with the rehearsals and in March the show can be seen about twenty times in Diever.
