“We mourn the death of one of the world’s greatest thriller writers,” said Jonathan Lloyd in a statement. Forsyth died after a short sickbed in the presence of his family.

Forsyth made a name for himself in 1971 The Day of the Jackala political thriller about an Englishman who is hired to kill the then French President Charles de Gaulle. The book was given several film edits and last year another series with Eddie Redmayne appeared in the lead.

The writer has written more than 25 books. Forsyth stood beside The Day of the Jackal known for books as The Odessa File and The Dogs Of War.
