The three-year-old housemates behind the Tiktok account Soupvandeweek have just changed their soup routine. Instead of spooning their own creations, Teun Reidel, Camiel earthenware and Chris van Eck served their tomato-vegetable soup on Monday to the residents of De Wever care institution in Tilburg. “They can come more often,” it sounds enthusiastic from the dining room.
With around 17,000 followers and more than 222,000 likes, the three housemates have now built up a large number of fans. Normally with a good dose of humor and a handful of vegetables they make weekly soup videos for Tiktok, which they eat after filming themselves. But this time they didn’t eat it themselves, but treated the elderly. The action originated from Teuns Stage at The Social Pact, where he is working on a campaign for meaningful work in healthcare.
Teun wanted to do something meaningful himself. When De Wever was the first to respond to his initiative, he thought: “We will do that right away”. “So now we are here on Whit Monday. Cooking feels different for others. But I really enjoy doing it,” he says. “It also means what for others and sometimes I am tired of my own soup, so others can enjoy it.”
‘Really very tasty’
The residents of De Wever did not know De Tiktokkers beforehand, but that changed quickly. “They can come more often,” says Maria Berkpeis with a broad smile. “Great fun.” Jo van Wezenbeek is also enthusiastic: “Of course!” And the soup? It is clearly appreciated. “Great, better than what we get normally,” says Maria. Finy Meeuwsen did not have her soup bowl completely empty. “A bit spicy, but I can have that. They did well. He is really very tasty.”
At the end of the afternoon, Camiel is asked by an employee to bring a resident to her room. “She liked you the most,” she says. “We don’t say anything to your girlfriend Marcella, Camiel,” are his friends.
Whether it remains a one -off promotion? Teun doesn’t think so. “I think it’s a nice initiative and you make others happy with it. It gives you energy.” Whether the residents of De Wever will also follow them on TIKTOK will remain exciting for a while. “I don’t know if they have ticktok, but it would be very hip. Of course you never know in Tilburg.” The video will appear on Tiktok next Monday.
