Where Carlo was, the NDR was. An incredibly long time, from 1971 to 2023, was heard the unmistakably sonorous voice in NDR 2 and later NDR 90.3. He was the moderator of the “current Schaubude” on NDR television for two long periods. He did talk shows, game shows, cooking shows and had his own section on the show “Das!”. Even as an old gentleman, drove to the radio house to moderate his midday program.
Carlo, as everyone called him, was born on October 20, 1943 as Carl von Tiedemann in Stargard in Pomerania. His father was General Carl von Tiedemann, mothers, from the licher side, was related to Heinrich von Kleist. The family fled to the West. Carl-Carlo trained as a merchant at Axel-Springer-Verlag, volunteered at the “Cuxhaven Allgemeine” and worked for four years at the “Hamburger Abendblatt”. Then he went to Buenos Aires as a correspondent for the Springer abroad.
The “current show” and more
The Aplomb, with which it occurred, was not very conducive to the letter. Carlo von Tiedemann had an oratorial talent, he was able to improvise fantastically. He never got embarrassed. In Hamburg they say “Schnacker”. In the 1970s he became the most popular radio presenter of the NDR and on regional television the most popular shape. The “Schaubude” was that under his aegis: a showman with great artists, with singers, actors and show people. The quick -witted Alida Gundlach was supported by him for a long time. In the 1980s, Carlo was a stadium spokesman at Hamburger SV for a while, the most striking ever. In unforgettable Carlos programs in the morning of Christmas Eve, unmatched his midday splow.

He moderated the “NDR talk show” only very briefly. He was better than a moderator as a guest, because his temperament carried him away. The digressions that were loved during his radio programs were exhausting for television people. Titles such as “Quatsch with Carlo” and “Carlos Koch-Chaos” indicate his unpredictability. In the 1990s, Tiedemann got into addiction and financial difficulties from which he freed himself by writing and talking about it. He was married three times.
Yesterday Carlo von Tiedemann died in Hamburg at the age of 81.
