The Visserijfeesten in Nieuwpoort are all about the North Sea fish and the shrimp this Whitsun weekend. During tours, visitors get a unique insight into the lives of the fishermen, who often go to the sea at night to get their catch.
The fish mine also opens its doors to the general public. For many visitors it is a first introduction to the world behind the fish stall. On the party square around the Surcouf there is also room for cosiness and taste. Tasters can enjoy shrimp, mussels, tongue and other delicacies from the North Sea.
The parties close on Monday with a flower tribute to the Vissers monument – a modest tribute to those who gave their lives at sea.
