Rock am Ring came up with a lot on the 40th birthday – this also includes a lot of surprises. For example, who would have thought that Feine Sahne Fischfilet, who already played with Pyro at the Mandora Stage Party the evening before, would again play a hangover breakfast at the campsite. The little gig at 1 p.m. even becomes a very romantic gesture: a fan can be carried away to his girlfriend for a marriage proposal and the “yes” is celebrated by the band and fans.
A few hours later on the somewhat outsourced Atmos Stage near the south entrance, the consequences of the rainy night are shown. Teenage Mortgage must play against the small afternoon depth of the audience and satisfy themselves that instead of Moshpit there is only a mud pit that nobody dares to enter. In contrast, the floor delivers even better grip in front of the Mandora Stage and Utopia Stage for acts such as kittie or Nothing more.
Rock am Ring: Saturday with a surprising power club gig
And then there is this countdown, which has been floating over the festival site since Friday: on a crane, the promotional lamp sign from Kraftklub, get Rock am Ring an additional Secret Act on Saturday?
In fact: on a provisional stage directly in front of the Mandora Stage, the Chemnitz perform three songs, including their new single “In every choir”. Annoying for everyone who did not notice the small stage before: the music is limited to the small area in front of the stage, the LED towers of the Mandora Stage transmit the picture, but not the sound. So many hardly get the gig with – the fans who are on site are all the more violent. Airbourne’s technicians could still have been letters: While the fan choir still grossed wrong, the drums are already tested.
CJ Ramone and Evil Jared at Rock am Ring
Me first and the gimme gimmes spread the usual carnival mood with a glitter suit and flamingo swimming ring on the Orbit Stage. And in the middle of it: CJ Ramone, who supports the band on their European tour.
Shortly afterwards Evil Jared Hasselhoff takes the lead on the Orbit Stage. What can you expect from the Bloodhound Gang bassist was the question in advance. The gig turns out to be a rock disco with drinking games. Attracted like the leader of the “Droogs”, he gives the DJ, while drummer Krogi gives the songs off the band more buzz. During a BeerPong game, the crew throws balls into the audience that are to be thrown on stage in buckets. As a referee: Wilson Gonzalez Ochsenknecht. Why? Because he can.
After just one song is over
A sad moment for the band and fans: Heaven Shall Burn have to cancel their appearance for only one song. Singer Marcus Bischoff has massive voice problems, coughs through the first bars and clearly says goodbye to the fans who have been waiting in the first rows despite heavy rain shower. Later it becomes known: he has to be treated by a doctor, for safety. The audience reacts with comforting applause – many were looking forward to a brilliant show, now the concern for his health remains.
A little later Bullet for my Valentine entered the Utopia Stage – and the crowd is suddenly wide awake. The clear highlight of the show is her hit “Tears Don’t Fall”. As soon as the first chorus sets in, thousands of hands get up, smartphone displays glow, it is sung, screamed, screaming.
Rewage at Slipknot
Even more on Saturday at Rock am Ring was looking forward to the last show at the Utopia Stage. Slipknot tuned tens of thousands with Totos “Africa” on the brute gig-followed by the “Knight Rider” theme. And then it pops: At the full throttle-NU metal of the mask carriers, everyone remembers the angry puberty years. Circle Pits fail at the front of the crowd – the front area is so crowded that even the wildest fan initially has no chance to start. Beautiful chaos, on the other hand,: moshpits, sprint duels and even tumble trees.
As soon as the last note is faded, the clouds give everything again. A boundary boundary is poured over the Nürburgring. Some call it perfect timing. Other: absolute crap. Because SDP, turbost state and Touché Amoré are still playing-then just a rubber boot party.
Anyone who is not well prepared for it make their way back into the tent – maybe with the knowledge: horny day, but maybe think of the rain poncho tomorrow.
