The 1-2 defeat of the German national soccer team in the semi-finals of the Nations League against Portugal further reverberation during the week. Now record international Lothar Matthäus Julian Nagelsmann has criticized for his experiments – but at the same time strengthened the national coach!
It is obvious that the services on the semi-final bankruptcy against Portugal (1: 2) were too little to dream of the DFB team as a large World Cup favorite. But since there are still many months in the United States anyway, you should keep calm, at least TV expert Lothar Matthäus emphasized.
“We have to trust Julian Nagelsmann. He has done an excellent job so far. He has brought the euphoria back with the team in Germany, especially during the European Championship,” the record national player told “Bild” and added: “And my trust in him is great.”
However, Matthäus found less good the experiments that Nagelsmann did to Portugal.
“I asked myself after the game on Wednesday evening why you suddenly play with a chain of three and then always prefer cooking in midfield, which he has never done, where he didn’t necessarily have the practice for it,” the 64-year-old put his finger in the wound of the national coach and added: “Some things have been tried out that didn’t necessarily work.”
Matthäus should also have referred to Nagelsmann’s triple change, which he had done after an hour and who ensured a break in German game.
Matthew does not want to accept “excuses”, but remains calm
Matthäus continued that some well-known players are currently missing, especially offensive shooting star Jamal Musiala and defense chief Antonio Rüdiger.
Don’t miss! RTL will broadcast the game for third place at Nations League on Sunday (June 8) from 2:30 p.m. with the German national soccer team live on free TV and in the stream to RTL+. The Nation’s League final in the Munich Allianz Arena also runs on RTL and RTL+, the start of the transmission is at 8:15 p.m.
“It was simply not the day of the German team, not the right decisions on and outside the square,” the TV expert took on both Nagelsmann and the DFB stars.
But: “You can’t always do everything right and then prefer now than when it comes to points in qualifications or then later at the World Cup,” said Matthäus conciliatory.
