At FC Barcelona, the paths could soon separate with Marc-André ter Stegen. The club is supposedly even ready to go unusual ways.
FC Barcelona apparently wants to get rid of Marc-André ter Stegen. As the Spanish newspaper “Sport” reports, the Catalans want to push a change this summer and are therefore ready to pay the 33-year-old. The contract of the German national goalkeeper is actually still dated until 2028.
Specifically, the newspaper says: Barça wants to offer Ter Stegen to pay his salary for the coming year, provided he left the club and negotiates “with whom”.
While Ter Stegen recently returned to the square after a long injury break, rumors about a tense relationship with coach Hansi Flick. The report speaks of a “difficult relationship”. Whether this is actually broken remains open – so far, Ter Stegen has not yet commented on this.
Last Sunday, however, Ter Stegen spoke about the rumors of separation as part of the Nations League: “Nobody spoke to me, I don’t deal with me. I know that I’m in Barcelona next year.” In parallel to the apparently planned separation, the Spanish master is said to have already found a successor solution: According to media reports, Barça is about to commit Joan García, the current goalkeeper of city rival Espanyol. An agreement should already be available.
In addition, there should also be a change in the number two position. Wojciech Szczęsny, who represented Ter Stegen during his injury break in the goal, received an offer from Barcelona for over two years.
Ter Stegen himself was calmly. He emphasized: “This is a situation that has now arisen. Nevertheless, I have to say that it is as always. Barça is one of the biggest clubs in the world. And there are competing situations. It is relatively clear to me that Barça is always improving.”
