What a race, what a result: Robert Farken, as fourth over 1,500 m at the Diamond League meeting in Rome, improved Thomas Wessinghage’s almost 45-year-old German record.
The 27 -year -old Leipziger ran a courageous race on Friday evening (June 6th, 2025) and even fought for victory against the world elite. In the success of the Frenchman Azzedine Habz (3: 29.72 min) it was not quite enough, but farken had every reason to celebrate.
With a time of 3: 30.80 minutes, he improved one of the oldest records of German athletics. Wessinghage was his best time (3: 31.58 min) on August 27, 1980 in Koblenz.
Discus: fifth and seven for German throwers
Previously, the German discus advertisers Marike Steinacker and Kristin Pudenz missed a place on the podium. They came up with ranks five and seven.
Olympic champion Valarie Allman from the USA confidently won the Stadio Olimpico. In the fifth attempt at 69.21 meters, the 30-year-old improved the seven-year-old meeting record of Croatin Sandra Perkovic (68.93 m) and in the end had a clear lead over the second-placed Yaimé Pérez from Cuba, which came to 66.63 m. Third place went to Jorinde van Klinken (Netherlands/65.77).
In the third attempt, Steinacker (Leverkusen) achieved their top width: 64.78 m meant personal best of the season and were enough for fifth place. Pudenz (Potsdam) threw 64.12 m and came to seventh place.
Chebet runs in her own league
Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet underlined her extra class over 5,000 m. The Kenyan woman distanced the assembled world elite around Gudaf Tsegay (Ethiopia) by more than 100 m and ran the second best time in 14: 03.69 minutes. Only Tsegay was faster in Eugene (USA) in her world record 2023.
