The Netherlands donates € 3 million to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL)the media organization that actually and independent news brings in regions where free press is under pressure or even completely lacks. Foreign Minister, Caspar Veldkamp, announced this today. With the donation, the Netherlands wants RFE/RL enable to continue their important work.
Minister Veldkamp: ‘Radio Free Europe plays an important role in independent journalism from Eastern Europe to Asia. It offers a counterbalance to Russian propaganda and disinformation and promotes freedom of press. With this donation, the Netherlands wants to promote media freedom and democratic values in countries where RFE/RL works. “
RFE/RL has been in financial problems since March this year, after the US government is the financing of US Agency for Global Media (USAGM)the US government agency that RFE/RL Finance, immediately stopped.
In the same month, the Netherlands signed a statement initiated by the Czech Republic that RFE/RL Underlines and calls for the search for a sustainable financial solution. The Czech Republic has been a host country of the media organization since 1995 and is committed to keeping it up.
