Pianist Nikola Meeuwsen (23) has written history in Brussels by being the first Dutchman to win the Queen Elisabeth competition, one of the most prestigious prizes in classical music. The circumstances and requirements to participate in the competition are ‘extremely heavy’, says Marlies van Gent, who was the first teacher of the young pianist. “Nikola always studied more than I asked of him.”
