Turner Helen Kevric was successfully operated on after her injury to the home European Championships in Leipzig.

This was announced by the German Turner Association (DTB) on Friday evening (May 30th). At the operation in Stuttgart, “the torn stretcher of the knee joint was restored and a small bone was refixed”, the association says that the 17-year-old is already “on the way of improvement”. There was initially no forecast on the expected duration of the upcoming training and competition break from the DTB.

The Paris Olympionician had contracted the injury in the all-around final on the first device at the jump after landing. Head coach Gerben Wiersma had talked about a “kneecap injury” at the Stuttgart native afterwards.

Tragic end of the European Championship for Helen Kevric

The competition and the rest of the European Championship had run for Kevric that it would have been one of the candidates on the podium both in the all -around and in the uneven bar finals on Friday. On Monday, Kevric had won the silver medal with the team.
