Sandro Wagner goes, Benjamin Hübner comes. But that’s not the only change in the national team coaching team.

Shortly before the start of the Nations League final tournament, the coaching team of the German national team is changing. Stefan Wessels becomes the second goalkeeper coach and takes over the post of Michael Fuchs, who in future focuses fully on his job in the DFB women’s team.

The 46-year-old was already part of the coaching team before the European home championship last summer and now returns permanently. At the DFB, Andreas Kronenberg is still primarily responsible for goalkeeper training-he looks after Marc-André Ter Stegen, Oliver Baumann and Alexander Nübel.

“It is a great chance to be able to work with the best goalkeepers in Germany. I was allowed to sniff a little with the national team EM air last year. That made a lot more like much,” said Wessels.

German football fans are known to the 46-year-old primarily from his time at FC Bayern and the 1st FC Köln. Wessels made it from the Bayern youth to the professionals, from 1999 to 2003 in the squad of the 1st team. Then he moved to Cologne, where he played for another four years.

Another change follows after the final tournament: Sandro Wagner leaves the DFB team. The previous assistant coach becomes head coach at FC Augsburg. In his place, Benjamin Hübner moves into the coaching team of Julian Nagelsmann. The 35-year-old was most recently active at TSG Hoffenheim and will take on the role of the first assistant in the future.

The DFB selection is currently preparing in Herzogenaurach. At the start, public training is on the program in front of around 4,000 fans. The semi-finals against Portugal will take place on Wednesday (from 9:00 p.m. in the T-Online Live Tickier) in Munich. In the event of a victory, France or Spain is waiting in the final.
