De Ronde Om Texel takes place from Thursday 12 to Saturday 14 June. The real competition is sailed on Saturday. In the past, nearly 900 boats participated in what was once the largest catamaran race in the world. This year there are more than 250 registrations. De Ronde Om Texel is an important event for the island, but due to the falling number of participants, the last edition is in danger of taking place this year.

Participants ask for other accommodations

The organization of the Texel sailing competition has asked the municipality for help for extra camping spots for a period of two weeks for the next ten years. The sailing race is open to surfers and they require a different accommodation options.

Surfers travel through Europe with campers and look for cheap overnight places. The organization mainly receives questions from participants who come from far. And what could be better to be able to stay with your camper on a private site on a private site.

A camping site is not just arranged for the organization. They have already made various attempts, but there is no room anywhere. Farming campsites have many seasonal places, but there is little space available according to the organization. Certainly not mid -June when the high season on Texel started.
