For the next five years, step -by -step parking will be introduced in the Ter Kleefkwartier, the Amsterdam district, Transvaalwijk, Indische Wijk, Vogelenwijk, Delftwijk and the Vondelkwartier. The list also contains the Sportsliedenbuurt and the Zaanenkwartier, research must show whether paid parking there can also help to reduce parking pressure.
The Coalition parties PvdA, GroenLinks, D66, CDA and action party voted for, just like the ChristenUnie. This assumed the parking policy with 24 votes in favor and 14 against.
Referendum
Before the city council debated about paid parking, there was already an introductory request on the table to keep a popular consultation on the subject. In March last year, the Haarlem population referred a similar plan to the trash.
But according to the new referendum scheme, a referendum cannot be held twice on the same subject in a period of four years. The referendum committee advised to reject that request. The city council took over that advice, also with 24 votes for and 14 against.
The first neighborhood where paid parking will be introduced in the course of 2026 is the Ter Kleefwartier in Haarlem-Noord.
