After a long approach, Jonathan Tah and FC Bayern finally found each other. The change of the central defender of Bayer Leverkusen to the record champion is perfect.
This was announced by FC Bayern on Thursday. Due to his contractual situation in Leverkusen, Jonathan Tah comes to Munich free of charge.
On Säbener Straße, he signed a four -year contract until June 2029.
The international was already spotted in Munich on Wednesday. There he completed the mandatory medical check before going to the club premises and the signing of the contract.
“We are very happy to welcome Jonathan Tah to FC Bayern. As an experienced national and leader, he brings the consistency and quality that will strengthen our defensive. He is a real enrichment for us- and that he can also win titles,” said CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen.
Sports board member Max Eberl explained: “It is no secret that we have had Jonathan Tah on the radar for a long time. We appreciate his class: he is a guy who takes responsibility. Jonathan had many offers, but he chose FC Bayern. We are very happy.”
Sports director Christoph Freund described Tah as “important reinforcement”.
“I am very happy to be at Bayern. I want to take responsibility here and work hard every day so that we as a team are successful and win many titles together,” said Tah.
Tah had matured into a national player at Bayer Leverkusen in his ten years and had decisively shaped the Double team from 2024. However, he did not want to extend his contract again in the Rhineland.
Jonathan Tah new defense chief of FC Bayern
The approach with FC Bayern has been running significantly longer. Last summer, the executive floor in Munich tried to defend the robust defender.
At that time a deal failed because Leverkusen did not buckle in the transfer poker. For weeks, the amount of the transfer compensation and the distribution between the fixed amount and bonus payments were argued.
Leverkusen boss Fernando Carro verbally shot towards FC Bayern because he was realized by the negotiation tactic.
Now Tah is now to become the new head of defense of FC Bayern. Because in the past season the defensive was often the Achilles’ heel of the team of coach Vincent Kompany.
For him, Min-Jae Kim must give way. FC Bayern should be willing to talk to the Korean if a corresponding offer is received.
