The current “Nomad Passport Index 2025” brings some remarkable changes. While European countries continue to dominate the upper places, the positions have shifted within the top 10. The rise of some countries that were not previously represented in the highest ranks is particularly striking.
The “Nomad Passport Index” evaluates 199 citizenships worldwide every year and, in its current issue of April 2, 2025, has again analyzed which travel passes are strongest worldwide. It is not just about the visa -free entry into as many countries as possible – other factors such as tax liability abroad, global perception, the possibility of double citizenship and individual freedoms flow into the ranking.

9th place: the ranking
The Nomad Passport Index evaluates 199 citizenship annually based on five key criteria: visa -free trips (50 percent), taxation of citizens (20 percent), global perception (10 percent), double citizenship (10 percent) and personal freedom (10 percent). The aim is to draw a holistic picture of global mobility and quality of life. Stand is April 02, 2025.
With a score of 105.5, Sweden and Latvia share the 19th place. Both countries offer their citizens a high visa -free travel freedom and strong personal freedom. Sweden convinces with its advanced society and stable economy, while Latvia scores with attractive tax regulations and growing international networking.
7th place: six European countries with solid pass values
In the 13th place with a score of 106 there are six European countries: Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. These states offer their citizens a broad visa -free travel freedom, stable political conditions and high personal freedoms. Germany and the Netherlands in particular score with their strong global perception and economic stability, while Denmark, Belgium, Slovenia and the Czech Republic convince with their quality of life and openness to double citizenships.
6th place: United Arab Emirates, Iceland and New Zealand
The United Arab Emirates, Iceland and New Zealand share tenth place with a score of 106.5 each. All three countries offer their citizens a high visa -free travel freedom and strong personal freedom. While the VAE convince with a strategic location and economic dynamics, Iceland and New Zealand score with political stability and high quality of life.

5th place: Luxembourg, Finland and Norway
Luxembourg, Finland and Norway share seventh place with a score of 107 each. All three countries offer their citizens high personal freedom, strong international reputation and generous regulations on double citizenship. While Luxembourg convinces with its financial stability, Finland and Norway score with political stability and high quality of life.
Malta and Italy take fifth place together with a score of 107.5. Malta convinces with an improved tax system, political stability and the possibility of double citizenship. Italy offers simple ways to double citizenship, high global perception and full access to the European Union.
Portugal reached fourth place with a score of 108. With a visa -free access to 176 countries and an expat -friendly tax system, the Portuguese passport offers both mobility and quality of life. Despite a slight decline in the ranking, Portugal remains in the top group.

2nd place: Greece & Switzerland
Switzerland and Greece share second and third place with a score of 108.5 each. Both countries offer their citizens a high visa -free travel freedom, strong personal freedoms and generous regulations on double citizenship. While Switzerland scores through its political neutrality and economic stability, Greece convinces with attractive tax incentives and programs such as the “golden visa”.
Ireland leads the 2025 ranking with a score of 109. The Irish passport enables visa -free or uncomplicated access to 176 countries, including the EU and the United Kingdom. In addition, there are entrepreneurs -friendly tax regulations and quick ways to citizenship that make Ireland particularly attractive to global citizens.
