The residents on the Draafsingel in the center of Hoorn looked up on Tuesday evening around 8 p.m., when one after the other stopped in front of their house. Police, ambulance and fire brigade: they were all there, after a deceased person had been seen in the water just before.
Quickly shielded
The next morning nothing can be seen of all those activities. The neighbors saw everything happen from a distance. “Everything was quickly shielded, luckily. I saw divers go into the water and understood that a man was found in the water. It is of course strange if this happens across the street of your house. I didn’t sleep badly, but you ask yourself. How deep is the water in the water?”
A neighbor was not at home on Tuesday evening. “I suddenly received many messages, so I immediately called home. Fortunately the children didn’t get much of it, but of course it is sad. I am curious what happened.”
No statements about identity
The investigation has since shown that the deceased person was not killed by a crime. The police make no further statements about the circumstances, nor about the place of residence or identity of the victim. “Our thoughts go to the relatives,” said the police.
