After the success in the relegation first leg against 1. FC Saarbrücken, Eintracht Braunschweig has good prospects for the second division class maintenance. However, the Lower Saxony exhort themselves to call up an equally concentrated performance in the second leg.

The rescue is close – but Eintracht Braunschweig once again sharpens the senses before the decisive showdown. “The base is good,” said two-game coach Marc Pfitzner before today’s second leg against the Saarländer (8:30 p.m., in the audio stream and in the live ticker): “But the job is not yet done.”

Sportschau 2nd Bundesliga Live, May 27, 2025 8:30 p.m.

Subject does not apply to the BTSV, which had won the first leg for the whereabouts in the 2nd league in Saarbrücken 2-0. Now the “lions” at home want to finally make relegation perfect.

Pfitzner: “Only played half of the relegation”

In between, however, there are still at least 90 minutes. “Half of the relegation is only played, the second half takes place on Tuesday evening,” said Pfitzner, who took over the coach job from his exempted boss Daniel Schering for the relegation after the regular season. “Nothing has been won yet!”

And yet, it seems, the change of coach has given another important impulse. Pfitzner talks strongly to Eintracht to prevent the crash into third -class. “He got into our heads,” said goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann, and he “found the right words”. With this new “Energy we have made a big step. But nothing more.”

FCS coach Schwartz hopes, BTSV striker Polter warns

And the FCS has not yet completely lost its hopes. “A 0: 2 is not optimal, but everything has already happened in football,” said coach Alois Schwartz: “You can catch up, but we have to appear differently.”

BTSV attacker Sebastian Polter warns that “we have to take the second step on Tuesday”. The basis of the success in Saarland were “clarity and a structure,” said the 34-year-old. This has to be brought back onto the pitch in the second leg and “finalize the class. Of course, the first step is important in a relegation, but on Tuesday we have to take the game again”.

“Saarbrücken is the opponent, but more important is our appearance, our match plan and how we implement it.”
-BTSV interim coach Marc Pfitzner

In order for this to succeed, Pfitzner emphasized on Monday, it is important to “be well prepared for the new initial situation”. The interim coach is “confident” that it was possible “that we can react to everything the opponent offers us”.

Apart from that, we “focus on ourselves”. Because yes, “Saarbrücken is the opponent, but much, more important is our appearance, our match plan and how we implement it”. Free heads and physical freshness are still crucial at the end of a season that is in every respect. This is also why in the few days between the two games against the Saarlanders, they placed a lot of emphasis on regeneration.

Eintracht asks fans to do without a place storm

With a view to the possible rescue, Eintracht asks its fans to avoid a big party on the field. “If there is a place storm, you can certainly not prevent it due to the dynamics,” said Eintracht spokesman Luca Podlech. One is “prepared for the scenario”. The club would also like “but also no space” if the relegation succeeds.

Possible lists:

Eintracht Braunschweig: Hoffmann – Jaeckel, Bicakcic, Köhler – Rittmüller, Krauße, Tempelmann, Conteh – Philippe, Polter, Gomez
1. FC Saarbrücken: Menzel – Becker, Sonnenberg, Bichsel – Fahrner, Sontheimer, Vasiliadis, Rizzuto – Rahibic – Brünker, Krüger
